Examples taken from, but not limited to:

The Richmond District of San Francisco

3rd Avenue and Clement St., Richmond District, San Francisco

3rd Avenue and Clement St.A little over 36 inches to walk with the planter box.

What's the difference between the top right photo and bottom photo ?

More room left here than in photo above!

ANSWER ?

...... Well for starters, In the bottom photo I will get a ticket (CVC-22500F) for not allowing any sidewalk clearance for pedestrians, YET in the top photo the City of San Francisco deems that a mere 72" (two standard scribed sidewalk squares) is sufficient when it comes to cutting into a sidewalk to generate parking meters ( and of course the revenue that comes with them) for diagonal parking.

...... Now I understand that not all cars are as small as the one used as an example BUT, my problem with my area around the first 10 blocks or so of Clement St. is the fact that when there is more than 30 restaurants in that area (a very conservative estimate) with a seating capacity of at least 50 patrons each (30x50=1500 possible patrons), I ask yet another logical question. DOES THE CITY THINK THESE DINERS (+ cooks/waiters/busboys/dishwashers) ARE AIRLIFTED IN!!!

We are F O R C E D to park in our driveways!!!

Only to receive a $50 parking ticket for doing so.

19th Avenue and Lake St.Newly approved construction done in Summer 2000 on sidewalk.

19th Avenue and Lake St., Richmond District, San Francisco

Note only TWO (36") squares approved as ample walking space by the City. Truck parked up the block on same side of street will get a ticket for leaving the same space available for pedestrians.

THE ABOVE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT WAS APPROVED AND WORKED ON DURING THE YEAR 2000

4th Avenue and Cabrillo St.A typical 72 inch San Francisco sidewalk with plenty of walking room.

4th Avenue and Cabrillo St., Richmond District, San Francisco

Note only TWO (36") squares approved as ample walking space by the City. Minivan parked up the block on same side of street will NOT get a ticket for leaving the same space available.

4th Avenue and Clement St.Parking meters cut deeper into sidewalk, not even the normal 72

...... The citation in question is (California Vehicle Code) CVC-22500F and what I want to see is the guidelines the city uses when they instruct the contractor who carves out the sidewalk. Is it based on 4 people walking at once? TWO people and ONE wheelchair at once? " Whatever " rules they use I know I still get a ticket when I leave more room for people to walk down a city block than the City of San Francisco does !!!

8th Avenue and Clement St.Hmmm, only a full 36 inches here with bench.

8th Avenue and Clement St., Richmond District, San Francisco

We are F O R C E D to park in our driveways!!!

Only to receive a $25 parking ticket for doing so.

9th Avenue and Clement St.Uneven sidewalk on right side, maybe 40 inches of level sidewalk.

9th Avenue and Clement St., Richmond District, San Francisco

We are F O R C E D to park in our driveways!!!

Only to receive a $25 parking ticket for doing so.

11th Avenue and Clement St.11th Avenue and Clement St.

We are F O R C E D to park in our driveways !!!

Only to receive a $25 parking ticket for for doing so.

Goal of this Webpage.

...... My only claim to fame is that I'm "Born-N-Raised" in San Francisco and I see area(s) of San Francisco explode with restaurants and NO parking to accomadate the patrons. The City reaps the profit from not only the food licensing but from it's taxpaying citizens in the form of parking tickets. Maybe we need a definitive measurement for sidewalk clearance OR "Driveway Parking" stickers for residents of their own buildings.
